England made a confident start and after just 10 minutes Wayne Rooney got the goal that he and all of England have been waiting for for many months And showing the strenght he has in dealing with his current Problem and also making everyone insured his personal problems doesn't enter on the pitch. A nice bit of work from Glen Johnson on the right, pulling the ball back across the box for Rooney to ease into the back of the net. Unfortunately for England, Theo Walcott was stretchered off shortly after this after an ankle injury he picked up creating Rooney's opener. But Adam Johnson, full of confidence after his performance and goal against Bulgaria stepped up to the plate once more and Walcott it has to be said was not missed at all.
England pressed on, with plenty of movement off the ball they looked confident, comfortable in possession and creative with their ideas of how to breakdown the Swiss defence. It seemed only a matter of time before England doubled their lead, with Jermaine Defoe missing a hat-trick of chances to add to his tally from the previous game. But credit to the Swiss, they held on and the score remained 1-0 at the half time break.
So the second half commenced and Switzerland came out with a bit more attacking intent which was nice to see after everyone expected them to set up very defensively, but they took a blow after the right back, Lichtsteiner, was rightly sent off for a second bookable offense. All that remained was for England to press on and wrap up the victory, and Adam Johnson so keenly obliged, making it two goals in two games with a superb finish after a Steven Gerrard pass on 69 minutes.Adam Johnson Looks on fire and that's great news for England as his still very young and looks to be continuing to improve!
So with the victory looking almost certain England could afford to relax and enjoy the last half hour of play. Or so they thought. Shortly after Johnson added England's second, Shaqiri pulled one back for the home team with a superb strike to beat an otherwise unbeatable Joe Hart (although it must be said, he looked like he took a slight knock to his confidence the young keeper, dropping a couple of catches. It may just have been down to the wet pitch and ball, but he was fortunately not punished). But oh well, his first goal conceded for another young talent who seems to have change People's perspective of England producing Bad Goalkeepers!
With Darren Bent (replacing Defoe, who was injured during Johnson's goal) and Shaun Wright-Phillips (on for Wayne Rooney) England reverted to 4-5-1 formation to kill any chance of a Swiss come back, but this didn't limit their attacking intent, and just two minutes before the end, Darren Bent got his name on the score sheet with a clinical left footed finish wrapping up another win for Capello's men.
So that's two wins out of two for England's apparently 'new look' squad. It's great for the fans to see these kind of performances and results, but remember, we breezed through qualifying for the world cup, and look what happened there in South Africa. I think we must all bear in mind that there will be far tougher tests that Bulgaria and Switzerland. But with their Current form and flow of new young talent.Their not bad so far.I think they got a shot at it!
