Over the 16 premier league meeting between them in this northern Derby,Newcastle has gotten the Edge with 7 wins while Sunderland not a very good record with only 3 wins and none in St James in ten years where Coincidentally Chairman Niall Quinn scored the Winning goal back then.In Stats regarding recently,Newcastle had gotten a steady start back in the premier league but they had already conceded a whooping 13 goals while at Sunderland,Defence has been rock solid resulting them to only concede 7 goals with only Chelsea Letting in less.
But on the offensive part Newcastle have a better record with an amazing 14 goals already just less then the top 3 clubs in the premier league Standings.Sunderland have been rock solid at the back but their the opposite on offensive with a lowly 8 goals just more then Wigan and West ham.So the Stats are kinda of Balance between the two clubs with Newcastle just getting the edge but stats doesn't matter in a derby like this where both teams haven't met for A season already.Oh yeah i forgot,The Toons also proved that almost every position can score as they already have 7 different scorers while Sunderland look to be giving all the work to the Strikers as only Gyan and Bent have scored for them.
In the injury list, for Sunderland Andy Reid is unavailable, after an emergency loan move to Sheffield United. Fraizer Campbell and David Meyler (both knee) are long-term injury concerns for the Black Cats.while for the Toons,Hatem Ben Arfa (broken leg), Dan Gosling (knee) and Steve Harper (collar bone) are all long-term absentees for Newcastle.
Sunderland took 4 points from the Jordi Relegation season but as i earlier wrote,This is a way different side for both teams. For the line up's,Newcastle named a same side that beat West Ham with Danny Simpson who was on loan with Sunderland in where they were promoted in that season. While Sunderland also named a same side that brought Villa to their Knees. And guess what?..Steve Bruce was a Jordi Back then..So yeah some interesting knowledge to share :).
It was tight at first but then Newcastle broke the tight game by giving Sunderland a scare and also making the first real chance of the game when a Cross from a free kick was decently headed by Carrol but the keeper parried it into the path of Collocini but his diving header was just off the mark from 6 yards.Barton as what he did last Week Against West ham,His crosses were just to perfection and he also got himself a chance at goal when his cross was partially cleared by Bramble and somehow Newcastle got it back at the edge of the box and someone(I didn't see who) passed it diganaolly to Barton who had so much time but his stiff grounder but saved by the keeper. The first of poor defending by the defence in the game,They could had closed him down but instead gave him time to look up and get his aiming right.
Newcastle were Dominating the Aerial challenges and Once again Another whipping corner by Barton was nod on from the far post by a Newcastle player and bobbled to Nolan who's back was facing goal.It looked like he was stranded but he amazingly made a overhead kick to score the first goal of the game in the 26th minute to keep his amazing scoring run and also his run for An England spot.
And once again The Sunderland defence were caught staring at the ball when a mis kick Scissors kick by Carrol cut through the defence and when to the path of Nolan who once again showed his goal scoring technique by calmly kicking it pass the keeper.A call for offside but he way off the offside zone. And just coming to the 35th minute Newcastle were up 2:0 up! Against An solid defence coming up to this game!
Just As Sunderland just look like they were coming back into the game and the first coming to an end for a chance for Sunderland to get back their stride,Nedum brought Down Jonas in the box for A penalty.Shola Ameobi just coming back to the team has great record by scoring 4 goals in his last derby meetings smashed in a great shot low into the corner where even how early the keeper when down he still wouldn't get it. Nightmare for Sunderland in the first half as they were down by three goals already.
In the second half,Just as i though things wouldn't get worst. It happen! Titus Bramble fouled Carrol who seemed to have a scoring chance by the referee sent him off to end a disappointing return for the Player who once played for the Toons.Three goals down and a man down?..Any worst?...YES! In the 70th minute Another defence splitting cross was once again connected by the Impressive Carrol but his header hit the bar and deflected into the middle of the box where Ameobi made a stunning little Scissors kick to leave the Keeper Stranded for a 4th goal.
And Guess what again?...Sunderland would have gone two men down when a mistake in the Sunderland half brought carrol And Nolan through on goal but Turner seemed to catch the leg of Carrol when he had a better run on goal. But Referee let him of with a yellow card to bring a sight of relieve to Steve Bruce who was just shell shocked. For Nolan,He was furious as Carrol had a good opening for Him to score before Turner brought the tall man down.So he decided to take the free kick but it wasn't on target. He was itching ever closer to a third goal.
And well,His dream finally came through when again other Corner(They scored tons from aerial this season already) was headed on by Ameobi into the goal instincts Nolan for his third jolly goal in this derby and he celebrated with his famous chicken arm run.It looked to be a clean sheet for Newcastle but Krul's heart was broken when In injury time A corner by Sunderland was cleverly read by Bent as he got off his Marker and tug it into the net.But no more then a consolation for the Black Cats. Their stunning goal conceded record just flashed like from their eyes.
